A Study on the Meaning and Message of John 10:10

John 10:10 is part of Jesus’ discourse about being the Good Shepherd. To fully understand this verse, it’s crucial to recognize the context in which Jesus spoke. He was contrasting Himself with false shepherds — those who lead people astray and leave them vulnerable to spiritual harm. The “thief” represents anything or anyone that draws us away from the life that Jesus intends for us. This includes the devil, worldly distractions, and even self-destructive thoughts.
The message is clear: there are forces that seek to diminish and destroy, but Jesus’ purpose is the complete opposite—He comes to bring life in abundance.
